It is my pleasure and honour to welcome you to The International Joint Conference on Hospitality & Tourism 2021 (IJCHT-21). We are indeed very proud to be the host of this conference. This conference is jointly organised by the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA Cawangan Pulau Pinang, Malaysia and several of our MoU partners from Indonesia, Thailand, Turkey and the USA. This conference provides an avenue for academics, administrators, business owners, policy makers and stakeholders from government institutions and students from institutions of higher learning to share and create a network that will be of exceptional value. The conference theme is “Beyond Smart Tourism: Inspired by People, Balanced by Nature, Driven by Technology”. To all the speakers, and participants, once again, let me extend a very warm welcome. On behalf of the organising committee, we warmly welcome all participants to the First International Joint Conference on Hospitality and Tourism 2021. We are honoured to be the host of this joint conference which is a fusion of four different international conferences, including the 2nd Penang International Conference on Hospitality, Malaysia, the 2nd Global Congress on Smart Tourism, Turkey, the 4th Graduate School of Tourism Management International Conference, Thailand, and the 3rd International Conference on Home Economics, Indonesia. Given the increasing significance of smart tourism in the 21st century, the conference focuses on topics related to recent theoretical and practical development in smart tourism from worldwide perspectives. We are glad to accept 180 conference papers from different parts of the world such as Canada, the USA, Bulgaria, Ireland, Turkey, Sri Lanka, China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. This remarkable feat has made this conference a platform of truly exceptional value for articulating new ideas, knowledge and practice among students, academics, practitioners and policymakers from all over the world. Although we are bounded by geographical and time limitations, we are grateful that we have the technology to bring us together virtually and successfully. Dr. Cihan Cobanoglu is the McKibbon Endowed Chair Professor of the College of Hospitality and Tourism Leadership (CHTL) at the University of South Florida Muma College of Business, who also serves as the Director of the M3 Center for Hospitality Technology and Innovation and Coordinator of International Programs for the College of Hospitality and Tourism Leadership. He is a Certified Hospitality Technology Professional (CHTP) commissioned by Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals (HFTP) and Educational Institute of American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA).

He is the Editor of the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology (JHTT), editor of Journal of Global Business Insights (JGBI), co-editor of Journal of Global Education and Research and a co-author of six books and ten conference proceedings. He is also currently serving as the President of Association of North America Higher Education International (ANAHEI). Dr. Cobanoglu served as the chair of the American Hotel and Lodging Association’s (AHLA) Technology and E-Business Committee from 2009 to 2011 and also a member of CHTP Advisory Council and Editorial Advisory Board of HFTP.

In addition, Dr. Cobanoglu is a visionary board member of Hospitality Technology magazine and editorial board member of Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, International Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Administration, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Cases, and Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Education. Dr. Cobanoglu also serves the industry as consultant. He is the founder and chair of Global Conference on Business and Economics (GLOBE), Global Conference on Education and Research (GLOCER), Global Conference on Business, Hospitality and Tourism Research (GLOSEARCH) and Global Conference on Services Management (GLOSERV).

Dr. Noel Scott is Adjunct Professor of Tourism Management in the Sustainability Research Centre, University of the Sunshine Coast. His research interests include the study of wildlife tourism, tourism experiences, destination management and marketing, and stakeholder organization. He is a frequent speaker at international academic and industry conferences. He has over 300 academic articles published including 16 books. He is on the Editorial Board of 10 journals, a Fellow of the Council of Australian University Tourism and Hospitality Educators, and a member of the International Association of China Tourism Scholars. He has experience in tourism in a number of countries including China, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. He has supervised 18 doctoral students to successful completion of their theses. He is on the Editorial Board of five journals and a member of the International Association of China Tourism Scholars. Prior to starting his academic career in 2001, Noel worked as a senior manager in a variety of leading businesses including as Manager Research and Strategic Services at Tourism and Events Queensland.

TPr Mohd Ridzal Abdul is the Director of Tourism, Arts and Heritage Department, Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP). Mr Rizal is a Qualified Professional Town Planner from Board of Town Planner Malaysia and a corporate member of Malaysian Institute of Planners. His roles is to coordinate the formulation of cultural policies and outline development strategies for the culture, arts and heritage activities in Seberang Perai and to supervise and monitor the implementation of “Tourism Mapping” and also “Coffee Table” across Seberang Perai. He holds a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and a Master of Business Administration from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).

Publication Opportunities

All accepted extended abstracts shall be published in a conference e-proceeding with eISBN. Based on the recommendation of the editorial board, selected full papers will be considered in one of the following journal publications:

There are three (3) specific tracks: Track 1 and 2 are for paper and poster presentation, while Track 3 is for Invention, Innovation, and Design competition. Please download the required templates based on your track of submission.

A. EXTENDED ABSTRACT

Authors should submit a two-page EXTENDED ABSTRACT between 1,000 – 1,200 words (excluding references) in English. Please CLICK the button below to download the EXTENDED ABSTRACT template.

The EXTENDED ABSTRACT should demonstrate originality and a high standard of quality that has not been previously presented and published. EXTENDED ABSTRACT that contains considerable grammatical and syntax errors will be rejected. All accepted EXTENDED ABSTRACT will be included in the e-Conference Proceeding with eISBN. B. FULL PAPER (OPTIONAL)

Authors who are interested to publish FULL PAPER should make 70 percent extensions or changes to the submitted extended abstract. The FULL PAPER should be based on completed empirical research, conceptual papers, and review papers. FULL PAPER ACCEPTANCE will be based on the discretion on the Journal’s Editorial Board. It should be clearly noted that some journals may impose article processing fees (APC) in which acceptance, agreement, and payment are solely under the discretion of the authors. EXTENDED ABSTRACT

This track aims to encourage the presentation of research projects that are still in progress or not completed that might be of significant interest to research community.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to present a paper based on their research proposals for undergraduate research, master’s theses, or doctoral dissertation should submit papers that present significant theoretical or conceptual developments, research propositions or hypotheses, proposed methods, and/or data analysis plan. The EXTENDED ABSTRACT should demonstrate originality and a high standard of quality that has not been previously presented and published. Faculty Endorsement of Student Research: Students submitting papers must list the name and email address of the faculty member. As a reminder, papers submitted must be original (Turnitin Result < 30%), cannot have been published/presented or accepted in a journal or another conference proceedings.
Note: All papers are to be submitted online via the conference’s IJCHT 2021 submission page no later than the due dates.

Video and Virtual Presentation Guidelines (Updated 17 Aug 2021)

For Track 1, the paper presentation will be conducted LIVE during the duration of the conference which is from 13th September 2021 until 14th September 2021. The paper presentation will be conducted in parallel sessions using the GOOGLE MEET platform. All registered authors who have received the letter of acceptance and made the necessary payment are eligible to present their papers using POWERPOINT PRESENTATION format. Each presenter is given not more than 10 MINUTES, with another 5 minutes for a question-and-answer session. The presenters will be eligible for the BEST PRESENTER AWARD and will be given an E-CERTIFICATE after their presentation session ended. Presenters who have submitted their FULL PAPER will be considered for the BEST PAPER AWARD. The full details or information about the CONFERENCE ITINERARY which compose of the PAPER PRESENTATION SCHEDULE (date, time, and platform link) will be made available on the conference website after 31st August 2021. Kindly contact the secretariat if you need further assistance regarding the paper presentation.

For Track 2, the poster presentation will be conducted using PRE-RECORDED VIDEO. All registered authors who have received a letter of acceptance and made the necessary payment are requested to prepare a pre-recorded video of their poster presentation. Please note that the video poster presentation should be in MP4 FORMAT with the duration should be no more than 10 MINUTES. It is advisable that the video poster presentation include a WINDOW BOX that shows the presenter, instead of a voice-over poster presentation only. Kindly refer to the ADDITIONAL RESOURCES section below for examples. Please upload the video poster presentation via the registered account on the conference website on or before 31st August 2021. E-certificate will be given to the respective presenters after they have submitted their video poster presentation. Presenters who have submitted their VIDEO POSTER PRESENTATION will be considered for the BEST POSTER AWARD. Video Poster Presentation Preparation Guideline

  • All poster presentations should be in English Language.
  • Poster format: ONE PAGE of infographic poster or PowerPoint slide.
  • Duration: 7 to 10 minutes.
  • Recommended set for HD format (1280 x 720 or other “720p” setting) or higher.
  • The poster should contain the research title, names of the authors, introduction or background of the study, conceptual framework, method, significance of the study and references. (Optional: data analysis and results, and study implications).
  • File Format: MPEG-4 (.mp4) file.
  • Video Quality use an adequate front light and an appropriate background for the video headshot of the presenter. Check your files before submitting them to ensure their quality (video and sound).
  • Please name the video poster presentation file according to your first name, underscore, and followed by the Paper ID (e.g., Andy_CHA100.mp4).

Video Poster Presentation Submission Guideline

  • The due date for submission is 31st AUGUST 2021.
  • Upload the video poster presentation link (Google Drive) via our Google Form at https://forms.gle/6puk55Zfak6g8oyE6
  • Alternatively, you can also email the video poster presentation link (Google Drive) to the secretariat at ijcht@uitm.edu.my
  • An e-certificate of participation will be emailed within 14 days after the submission.
  • The pre-recorded videos will be available to the participants during the Conference and in the post-Conference Video Library.

Video Poster Presentation Recording Tips

  • Use a place for recording as quiet as possible.
  • Avoid areas that have an echo or bad acoustics.
  • A good microphone close to the mouth. Avoid, if possible, using the default built-in microphone on the computer.
  • Remember to speak slowly and enunciate clearly, without pausing.
  • Make sure you have good front light – ensuring that the light shines brightly on your face. If your back is to a window, close the shades.
  • Put the camera at eye level.
  • Do a test recording of a couple of minutes and review the sound and picture quality before recording the entire presentation.

Additional Resources
Among all video conferencing tools available for video recording, PowerPoint and Zoom are the most preferable. Our recommended approach is to record a compatible video, using a webcam or an external video camera to create a small window of the speaking presenter and an external microphone or headset for the audio. Both Zoom and PowerPoint presentation software allow recording audio and video directly in the application and can export appropriate video files in MP4 format. Please refer to the following resources for more information on recording using PowerPoint and Zoom:

Examples of Video Poster Presentation

For Track 3, the IID project presentation will be conducted using PRE-RECORDED VIDEO. All registered authors who have received a letter of acceptance and made the necessary payment are requested to prepare a pre-recorded video of their project presentation. Please note that the video project presentation should be in MP4 FORMAT with the duration should be no more than 10 MINUTES. It is advisable that the video poster presentation include a WINDOW BOX that shows the presenter, instead of a voice-over poster presentation only. Kindly refer to the ADDITIONAL RESOURCES section below for examples. Please upload the video poster presentation via the registered account on the conference website on or before 31st August 2021. E-certificate will be given to the respective presenters within 14 DAYS after the video poster presentation submission. Presenters who have submitted their VIDEO PROJECT PRESENTATION will be considered for Medals (GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE) and the SPECIAL IID AWARDS. The video presentation should highlight novelty and uniqueness, benefit to mankind, commercialization, certification and publication related to the invention/ innovation/design.
